Walton’s
Hat Trick Leads Highlanders over Pioneers, 6-0
Box Score
Houghton,
N.Y. – The
Highlanders came out on top in tonight’s first American Mideast Conference game
over rival Point Park University, 6-0. The Highlanders controlled the game by
possessing the ball and keeping it down in the Pioneers end for most of the
night. The Highlanders scoring onslaught was lead by Captain
Jr. Ernie Walton (Zionsville, PA) who
recorded a hat trick on the night. Also leading the Highlanders was
So. Erik Lefebrve (Ottawa, ON) recording
his second consecutive shut out.
The first goal of the night came in the 5th minute on
a scramble scored by Jr. Tyler Haggerty
(Warren, NJ). The Highlanders kept the pressure on the Pioneers by taking
advantage of a penalty kick in the 25th minute scored by
Jr. Ernie Walton (Zionsville, PA), his
first on the night.
The Highlanders opened up the second half with a goal that came
on a give and go in the 53th minute scored by
Jr. Ernie Walton (Zionsville, PA), his
second of the night, assisted by So. Brendan
McKirchey (Getzville, NY). In the 67th minute, Highlander
So. Josh Gottron (Rome, OH) powered
through the Pioneer defense and pounded the ball into the back of the net off a
pass from So. Chris Cruikshank (Forrest
Hill, MD). The next Highlander goal scored in the 74th minute
resulted in Jr. Ernie Walton’s (Zionsville,
PA) hat trick. Jr. Chad Wakeman
(Easton, PA) dribbled around the Pioneer defenseman and sent a one time pass
over to Jr. Ernie Walton (Zionsville, PA).
The Highlander scoring onslaught was closed out in the 87th minute
coming off of a corner kick. Fr. Steven Ross
(Auburn, NY) dropped the ball perfectly in front of the net as
Fr. Justin Farnsworth (Spencerport, NY)
headed the ball past the Pioneer goalie.
Jr. Dan Miller
(Stanley, NY)
played in his first game tonight in goal making 2 saves.
Highlander Head Coach Matthew Webb “It was a very interesting
performance from our team tonight coming in to our first game of conference
play. The combination of So. Erik Lefebrve’s
(Ottawa, ON) strong play in net and Jr.
Ernie Walton’s (Zionsville, PA) lead the Highlanders to victory.”
The Highlanders look to improve their overall record at home this
Wednesday versus Mercyhurst with kickoff starting at 7:00PM on Burke Field.
