Highlanders Lose Close One to Lakers, 2-1

Box Score

Houghton, N.Y. –  The Highlanders were faced with a big challenge in tonight’s contest versus NCAA Division II, Mercyhurst.  The Highlanders played tough but lost with the final score, 2-1.

The Highlanders challenged the Lakers in every aspect.  The Highlanders faced adversity by playing a team that physically outmatched the Highlanders.  The Highlanders fought tenaciously for every ball.  The Highlander defense played aggressively by challenging every move the Lakers made offensively.

The Lakers broke into the scoring in the 67th minute.  The Highlanders stormed back aggressively charging the Lakers’ net, resulting in a Highlander goal just 16 seconds after the Lakers goal in the same minute of play. Highlander So. Josh Gottron (Rome, OH) took a one time pass from Jr. Tyler Haggerty (Warren, NJ) and headed it into the back of the goal.  The Lakers closed the scoring in 71st minute of the game.

So. Erik Lefebrve (Ottawa, ON) played well for the Highlanders making 9 huge saves versus the Lakers.  In his biggest save of the night, the Lakers blasted the ball towards the net which Lefebrve deflected back into the field of play which the Lakers quickly gathered the rebound and shot the rebound with Lefebrve on his knees.  Lefebrve sprung up from the position and snatched the ball out of midair leaving the Lakers stunned by his fast reaction to their rebound opportunity.

The Highlanders look to improve their overall and American Mideast Conference  record this Saturday at 7:00PM versus AMC rival Geneva College at Beaver Falls, PA.
