Highlanders Victorious
Against Morrisville State, 5-0
Box Score
Houghton,
N.Y. - The
Highlander Field Hockey team started homecoming weekend with a win today over
Morrisville State Mustangs, 5-0.
The
Highlanders played very well without starting GK
Sr. Erin Frederick
(Wilmington, DE)
and
Sr. Stacy Garber (Lebanon, PA) in the field
today. This left the Highlanders with no reserves on the bench and meant that it
would be a long game for those who would play today.
This
game was the return game from Sep. 9th when the Highlanders beat the
Mustangs at their place 3-0. Today’s results show’s the continuing improvement
and hard work that Coach Wells is installing on her young team.
So. Amanda Brenon
(Endwell, N.Y.)
opened the scoring for the
Highlanders with some scrappy stick work in front of the net. Brenon was able to
deflect a shot from Sr. Kirsten Mazzeo
(Braddock, NJ) around the backside of the goal keeper in the 24th
minute of play. Sr. Natalie Wenger (Annville,
PA) had a big day racking up a goal immediately in the 25th
minute off a cross from Fr. Ashley Hoffman
(Webster, NY).
Sr. Kirsten Mazzeo (Braddock, NJ)
scored the next two goals
for the Highlanders registering her fourth and fifth goal of the week. The first
goal came in the 27th minute of play from a great pass from
Sr. Natalie Wenger (Annville, PA) through
the back line of the defense for the Highlanders third goal of the afternoon
which carried them into the half with a 3-0 lead.
Sr. Kirsten Mazzeo (Braddock, NJ) then received her second goal of
the day off a rebound from the goal keeper, easily placing the ball into the
back of the goal in the 52nd minute of play.
Jr. Elizabeth Mueller (Lancaster, PA) closed
out the scoring for the Highlanders scoring her 2nd goal of the
season off penalty shot in the 58th minute.
The
Highlanders record now moves to 6-3 for the season. Their next game is home
against Bloomsburg University (PA) October 9th at 4:00 pm.
