Snelgrove takes Player of the Week Honors for Oct. 9-15

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Houghton midfielder
Jr. Josiah Snelgrove (Coldstream, New Brunswick) and Rio Grande goalkeeper Derek Talcott (Independence, MO) are the AMC men's soccer Players of the Week.

Snelgrove, a 6-foot-1 junior who is also the NAIA Region IX Player of the Week, scored two goals with three assists in two victories for the Highlanders. He erupted for two goals and two assists in a 5-2 decision over AMC North Division foe Daemen. Snelgrove then set up the lone score in a 1-0 win against Tiffin which was Houghton's first over the Dragons in eight years. Tiffin has been responsible for the early departure for the Highlanders in AMC playoff play in 2003, 2002, and 1999.

Snelgrove scored his first two collegiate goals ever of his career against Daemen College.

The Highlanders have looked impressive outscoring their opponents 15-5 in their last seven games and posting a 4-2-1 record in that span. This will be a great run up to the playoffs for the Highlanders peaking at the right time in the season.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique

emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
