Highlanders Play Tough Game, Lose to Cavs 2-1
Box Score
Houghton,
N.Y.
–
The
North versus the South. The Houghton Highlanders traveled down to South Euclid,
Ohio to do battle with American Mideast Conference South division opponent Walsh
University. The Highlanders unfortunately came up short, 2-1 in tonight’s game
playing an offensive first half and a defensive second half.
The
Highlanders were the first to score in the 5th minute of the game off
a well executed play. The freshman trio of Fr. Dan
Brubaker (Shippensburg, PA), Fr. Jesse
Woolsey (Houghton, NY), and Fr. Jonathan
Brooks (Ottawa, ON) pulled together a series of passes resulting in
the Highlanders only goal on the night.
Highlanders Head Coach Matthew Webb said, “The goal in the first half was well
executed by our young men. The highlight of the second half of tonight’s game
was the solid defense we exhibited. The lessons we learn from tonight’s game
will help us build on what we need to do as we come to the next games our plate,
two important conference games.
The
Highlanders look to improve their overall and American Mideast Conference
record this week as they face Roberts Wesleyan College and Notre Dame College of
Ohio.
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique
emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
