Highlanders
Suffer Heartbreaking Overtime Loss to
Frostburg
State University
Frostburg,
MD –
The Lady
Highlanders battled continuously in the thick mud, but could not pull out a win
and fell to Frostburg State University 4-3 in overtime.
Sr. Kristen Mazzeo (Braddock, NJ) tallied
three assists in the game and is now just one assist away from tying the all
time career assists record.
Fr. Ashley Hoffman
(Webster, NY) had her first goal off a corner in the 18th
minute by tipping in a pass from Mazzeo
past the goalkeeper and the diving defense.
In the
second half, Houghton was able to come from behind to tie Frostburg.
Fr. Ashley Hoffman (Webster, NY)
deflected another pass from Mazzeo into
the goal in the 47th minute. Just two minutes later
Sr. Stacy Garber (Lebanon, PA) took a pass
from Mazzeo and slammed the ball past the
goalkeeper. Houghton worked hard to pull the ball out of the mud and carry it
down the field to score, but in the ended up losing in overtime off a penalty
stroke.
Houghton is now 8-7-0 for the season.
They look to improve their record when they take on Mercyhurst College away on
Tuesday, October 31st.
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique
emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
