So. Dan Ballard Qualifies for National's
Houghton,
N.Y.-
So.
Dan Ballard (Syracuse, NY)
finished 12th in the 2006 AMC Cross Country
Championships that was hosted by Tiffin University. Ballard finished the race
with a PR 26:04 allowing him entry in the NAIA Cross Country Nationals in
Louisville, KY later this month. Ballard was also selected to the All AMC
Conference Team and All Region IX Team.
The Men's team placed 6th overall and the women
finished 8th at the AMC Championships. The men's and women' team competed
bitterly fighting some nagging injuries and sickness with the introduction of
winter weather.
The Men's team continued to improve showing four
PR's; Fr.
Dan Ballard (Syracuse,
NY), So. Jacob
Connor (Orchard Park, NY), Jr. Michael Platt
(Wayne, NJ) and Jr. Joe Campagna (Syracuse,
NY). This should provide a strong foundation for next years team. The
women's team had a disappointing day but showed a few bright spots with two PR's
from Jr. Rachel Rhodes (Salamanca, NY) and
Jr. Heather Hutton (Brantford, Ontario).
Ballard is the first Highlander to qualify for the
Nationals in quite some time.

Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique
emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
