   Women’s Basketball Loses in Season Opener Against 

                           Southern Wesleyan

Chili, N.Y. – The Lady Highlanders basketball team lost in the season opener at the 2006 Raider Classic to Southern Wesleyan 61-84.  The freshman stepped up for Houghton with Fr. Leah French (Owego, NY) coming off the bench to lead the team with 16 points and 3 steals.  Fr. Erika Forland (Huntingdon Station, NY) followed close behind her with 14 points and led the team with 3 blocks.   

Houghton had the edge over Southern in second chance points earning 21 points.  The Lady Warriors were able to take advantage of turnovers scoring 14 more points than the Highlanders.  The second half turned out to be a big improvement for the Lady Highlanders where they improved on both their field goal percentage and their 3-pt. field goal percentage.   

The Lady Highlander’s second game of the tournament is tomorrow, Saturday, November 11th vs. Malone at 2:00 PM.
