    Women's Basketball Falls Short to Malone, 69-93

Chili, N.Y. – The Women's Highlander basketball team lost to the Malone College Pioneers tonight at the 2006 Raider Classic, 69-93. The women now fall to 0-2 record to start the season.

The Highlanders got off to a slow start against the Pioneers finding themselves down by eight points early 1-9,  five minuets into the first half. The Highlanders got back into the game with two quick three's from Jr. Becky Kallal (West Chester, PA) and Fr. Leah French (Owego, NY). Fr. Erika Forland (Huntingdon Station, NY) followed those up with two lay ups and the Highlanders took the lead 11-9. The first half continued to be close until the Pioneers took the lead at 10:07. The Pioneers further extended the lead to 12 points, leading 30-42.

The Highlanders made a short run in the second half at the 15:32 point, cutting the lead to 10 points with a couple of lay ups from Fr. Jessica Smith (Middleport, N.Y.). This would be the closest that the Highlander's would come to the Pioneers as they closed out the game with a comfortable 24 point margin, 69-93.

The Highlanders had four players in double digits for scoring; Jessica Smith had 18 points and 8 rebounds, Leah French had 16 points, Erika Forland had 13 points and Jr. Ashley Scudder (Fredonia, N.Y.) had 12 points.

The Highlanders will play next away at Mansfield University on November 21st at 7:00 pm.
