       Mansfield defeat's Women's Basketball, 47-76

Mansfield, PA- The Women's Basketball team fell to the Mansfield University Mounties tonight 47-76. The Highlanders played a tough 1st half against the undefeated 2-0 Mounties.

 

The Highlanders took an early lead with a 7-0 run in 17:58 minute mark, by three buckets from the Highlanders Juniors: Ashley Scudder, Cassie Merrill and Becky Kallal. The Highlanders continued to assume control until the 10:00 when Mansfield tied the game at 15-15 with a 3 pointer from Mountie Emily Atkins.

 

The lead would go back and forth until the Mounties took two unanswered lay up's getting out to a 4 point lead 21-25 with 2:27 left on the clock. The Highlanders managed to only put up three shots in the last two minutes allowing the Mounties to stretch their lead to nine going into the half.

 

The second half started rough for the Highlanders missing their first eight shot attempts while the Mounties poured on the points extending their lead to 23-48 (15:34). The Highlanders continued to struggle offensively for the rest of half shooting just over 30% from the field for the game.

 

Leah French (Owego, NY) led the Highlanders with 12 points and 4 rebounds in 15 minutes of action.

 

The women's overall record moves to 0-3 and play away at Alfred University on the 29th of November at 8:00 pm.
