        Seven Men's Soccer Players Receive Post Season

                                          Honors

 

Houghton, N.Y.- The Highlander Men's Soccer team received post season honors for seven players for the 2006 season. The men's team posted a 6-10-3 overall record for 2006 season going 3-1-1 in AMC North Division Conference play. The Highlanders finished their season reaching the NAIA Region IX Final-Four losing to Rio Grande University, 3-0.

 

Erik Lefebvre (So. Ottawa, ON) was selected as an NAIA Second Team All-American and AMC First Team North Division selection. Lefebvre allowed only 22 goals this season giving him a 1.32 GA average in just 1499 minutes of action this season. Lefebvre is the first All American since Sanjeev Parmar and Akim Antwi in 1997. Erik has emerged as a leader on this team and expect him to carry the Highlanders to the national tournament in future years.

 

Josiah Snelgrove (Jr. Coldstream, New Brunswick) and Tyler Haggerty (Jr. Warren, NJ) also received AMC First Team North Division selections. Snelgrove played and started 18 games for the Highlanders this season recording 2 goals and leading the Highlanders with 5 assists. Snelgrove was an important part to the midfield this season and possibly the most skilled player this season.

 

Haggerty started all 19 games in the 2006 season recording 3 goals and 1 assist. He started as a forward this season but was moved back to anchor the defense at the midway point of the season. Tyler's ability to control the ball in the air made his him a clear standout on defense this season.

 

The Highlanders also produced three players who where selected to the AMC Second Team North Division, these were Justin Farnsworth (Fr. Spencerport, NY), Dan Brubaker (Fr. Shippensburg, PA) and Jonathan Brooks (Fr. Ottawa, Ontario). Farnsworth started all 19 games for the Highlanders this season. Farnsworth was also selected as the Freshman of the year for the AMC North Division. Justin gave Houghton an excellent defender on the left side combined with Haggerty produced a strong defensive line for the future. Farnsworth speed and strength as a freshman set's him apart and is an excellent aerial defender

 

Brubaker led the Highlanders in scoring this season with a team high 4 goals, he also had 1 assist giving him 9 points for his first year as a freshman. Brubaker also started all 19 games for the Highlanders this year in the midfield. Brubaker demonstrated a relentless work ethic and will establish himself as a significant contributor for the next three years.

 

Brooks played in all 19 games this season, starting in 17 of those matches. With his explosive speed and solid ball control he was able to score three goals and 1 assist for his efforts this year. Brooks is a versatile player on both sides of the field and will help in leading the team in the future.

 

The NAIA also announced this year's list of scholar athletes to which Ernie Walton (Jr. Zionsville, PA) was named to the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete Team for 2006. Walton played in 13 games this season starting 11 of those matches. Walton stood out against Point Park at home scoring a hat-trick. Walton has excelled in the classroom and is a perfect example of a student athlete at Houghton College.
