Houghton, N.Y. As sweet as it was the Highlanders win streak was snapped tonight by the RIT Tigers in the Harrold J. Brodie Tournament, 57-49.  The Highlanders played well for 35 1/2 minutes however, they could not hold onto the win losing the game in the last 4 and ˝ minutes resulting in 26 points and 6 turnovers for the Tigers.

Corky McMullen (Sr. Castile, NY) scored 13 points while Tyler Mutton (So. Brockport, NY) scored 12 points and registered 3 rebounds and 3 assists.  Mutton and McMullen received All-Tournament Team honors.

“We were up for the first 35 ˝ minutes, we just could not seal the victory.  If we want to win we must learn how to finish the game and this needs to come from our Seniors” said Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Glyn Turner.  The Highlanders were up by 1 point at the end of the first half.  They built an 11 point lead over the Tigers with 4 and ˝ minutes left in the game.  The Tigers scored 26 points and forced the Highlanders to turnover the ball 6 times in those 4 and ˝ minutes awarding the Tigers a home victory and the title of champion in the Harrold J. Brodie Tournament.

The Highlanders next game is away versus Azusa Pacific University in California at 7:30PM EST on Saturday, December 28th.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
