Highlanders
Lose Close One To Arrows, 72-63
Pepper
Pike,
OH –
The
Highlander Women’s Basketball team stayed close throughout the game against AMC
North Division opponent Ursuline College, but lost 72-63. This loss snapped a 3
game win streak for the Highlanders, leaving them with an overall record of 3-4
for the season.
The
Highlanders trailed by 38-30 going into the half. Ursuline comfortably kept the
Highlanders at bay leading with a solid ten point lead.
Jessica Smith
(Fr. Middleport, NY)
lead the team in points scoring 13 and Erika
Forland (Fr. Huntingdon Station, NY) had 12 points.
The
leaders for the Arrows were Whitney Blackburn who had 21 points and Jessica Wood
who earned double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
The
Highlanders lost the battle on the boards 34-24. “We did a lot of good things,
but they beat us on the boards,” said Coach Lord after the game. Had Houghton
been able to play a closer game on the boards the game could have been closer,
maybe even resulting in a win.
The
Highlanders will take a break for the holidays but resume play away on Thursday,
December 28th against a new opponent Westmont College at 1:00 PM
PST.
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
