Highlanders
Unable To Pull Out Win Against Daemen
Box Score
Houghton,
NY –
The
women’s basketball team clinched a playoff spot this past weekend but could not
pull out a win tonight as they lost to Daemen College 51-67. The Highlanders
have one more AMC North Division game against Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday.
The
Highlanders battled the entire game fighting for every opportunity against the
Daemen Lady Wildcats. The Wildcats held a comfortable lead pushing the
basketball in transition and scoring off second chance shots. The Highlanders
had too few bodies to match up against Daemen’s personnel and tired quickly
going into the second half.
“Our
young players played well tonight. French,
Forland, and
Smith combined shot 19 for 34 from the 3
point line. We were within 4 points midway through the second half. Our
inability to shoot from the perimeter lost us the game tonight,” said Highlander
Coach Skip Lord.
Leah French
(Fr. Owego, NY)
led the Highlanders with 18 and 9 rebounds. Erika
Forland (Fr. Huntington Station, NY) followed just behind her with 17
points, 6 points.
The
Highlanders are now 12-12 overall and 6-7 in the AMC North Division. Houghton
will look to improve both of their records when they play away against Wesleyan
rival Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday, February 17th with the
tip off at 2:00 PM.
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
