Missed Shots Hurt Highlanders in Loss to Daemen,

                                          76-63

Box Score

Houghton, N.Y. The Daemen Wildcats came out on top after a poor shooting performance by the Highlanders. The men’s team struggled to score against the Wildcats shooting 35% from the field on the night including 22 turnovers leaving no hope for a win.

The Highlanders aerial attack was led once again by Luke Mortenson (Sr. Greenville, N.Y) scoring 27 points while shooting 8 for 19 from the field, 4 for 8 from the 3 point line and a perfect 7 for 7 from the free throw line.  Allen Goodman (Sr. Citra, FL) bled the Highlanders in the rebound category with 10 on the night.  Mada Abdelhamid (Fr. Auckland, New Zealand) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds.

“We battled hard versus a team who played aggressively knowing they needed a victory to stay in the playoff picture.  We missed shots that we should have made especially in the paint and free throws as well as lay ups” said Coach Brad Zarges.

The Highlanders last game of the 2006-2007 season is away versus rival Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday, February 17th with the tip-off at 4PM .

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
