Roberts Comes From Behind To
Defeat Houghton In
Overtime
Box Score
Chili, NY –
The Highlanders played a close game against AMC North Division rival Roberts
Wesleyan Red Raiders, falling in overtime 71-75. Despite this close loss the
Highlanders have their eyes aimed high as they proceed to the playoffs.
Houghton led the Red Raiders going into half with consistent shooting from the
outside and tough defense by four points 32-28. Roberts battled hard tying the
game with two free throws with 2.3 seconds left in regulation at 64-64. The
Raiders continued to use the momentum generated going into overtime with two
quick baskets giving them an edge and outlasting the Highlanders.
The
Highlanders shot 36% from the field, 39% from the 3 point line, and 68% from the
free throw line this evening. Making a few more baskets could have helped them
in tonight’s game, but will be essential in playoffs.
“Losing
in overtime is always disappointing,” said Coach Lord after the game. “We played
very hard, but missed some foul shots which could have helped us in the end.
Everyone contributed tonight and the leaders stepped up which are two things
that will help us in the playoffs. This game was a good tune up for playoffs and
I’m looking forward to them. We’re going to put this loss behind us and look to
the future.”
Erika Forland
(Fr. Huntington Station, NY)
led the
Highlanders this evening, earning a double-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds,
and 3 blocks. Leah French (Fr. Owego, NY)
followed her with 17 points and 6 rebounds. And
Cassie Merrill (Jr. Houghton, NY) earned 15 points and 5 steals for
the night.
The
Highlanders are now 12-13 overall and 6-8 in the AMC North Division. Houghton’s
next match will be on Wednesday February 21st in the AMC North
Division playoffs. The opponent, game time, and game location will all be
announced shortly.
