                               Roberts 88-65

Box Score

Houghton, N.Y. The Highlanders played their last game of the 2006-2007 season this afternoon at rival Roberts Wesleyan, falling to the Red Raiders by the score of 88-65.

The Highlanders never got any momentum going through out the game with numerous turnovers and the Red Raiders ability in gaining second shots off offensive rebounds. The Freshman Highlander trio of Yannick Anzuluni (Fr. Ottawa, ON), Mada Abdelhamid (Fr. Auckland, New Zealand) and Ben Kopp (Fr. Franklinville, NY) finished their season strong providing an optimistic look towards next season.

On the afternoon, the Highlanders shot 35% from the field, 26% from the 3 point line and 53% from the free throw line. The Highlanders were out shot by the Red Raiders throughout the entire game with the Red Raiders dominating from the start with a 12 point lead over the Highlanders in the first half, 41-29.

The Highlanders were led by Yannick Anzuluni (Fr. Ottawa, ON) registering his 4th double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Mada Abdelhamid (Fr. Auckland, New Zealand) posted 14 points and 5 rebounds.  Ben Kopp (Fr. Franklinville, NY) scored 9 points and snagged 2 rebounds on the afternoon.

“The play of our younger players provides our team and program with an optimistic view towards next season with their experiences learned this season and from our Senior Highlanders,” said Coach Brad Zarges.

The Highlanders finish their season with a 9-16 overall record and with a record of  1-9 in the AMC North Division.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
