Highlanders Score Three In AMC Honors
HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Three members of the Houghton College
men’s basketball team have been honored by the American Mideast Conference for
their play during the 2006-07 season.
Luke Mortenson (Sr. Greenville, NY) was named as a Second Team All-AMC
North Division selection for 2006-07. This is the second year in a row that
Mortenson has received this honor. Mortenson started 24 games and saw action in
25 matches for the Highlanders leading the team in scoring and steals averaging
16.3 points per game and 1.9 steals per game for this season. Nationally
Mortenson ranked 8th in the country in 3pt shooting percentage with 47% and 32nd
in 3pt FG made averaging 2.56 per game.
The
Highlanders also placed two freshmen this year who were both selected as All-AMC
North Division Honorable Mention's and to the AMC North Division All-Freshmen
Team.
Mada Abdelhamid
(Fr. Auckland, New Zealand)
started 24 games and saw action in all 25 matches for the
Highlanders averaging 9.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season.
Abdelhamid ranked 14th in the conference in rebounding and shot over 45% from
the field.
Yannick Anzulini
(Fr. Ottawa, Ont. Canada)
started 14 games this season and saw action in 25 matches. Anzuluni
averaged 8.9 points per game and led the Highlanders in rebounding ranking 10th
in the conference averaging 7.1 per game and ranking 8th in conference with 1.2
blocked shots a game. Anzuluni shot over 51% from the field this season and was
ranked 35th nationally in offensive rebounding averaging 2.8 per game.
The
Highlanders posted a 9-16 record for 2006-07 season. This has been most wins in
a season since the 1995-1996 season when they were led by Coach Greg Barry.
Houghton College
