AMC Honors Four For Women's
Basketball
HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Four members of the Houghton College
Women’s basketball team have been honored by the American Mideast Conference for
their play during the 2006-07 season.
Leah French (Fr. Owego, NY)
was named Freshman of the Year and
selected 2nd Team All-AMC North Division. French started 18 matches for the
Highlanders and saw action in all 26 games this season. She led the Highlanders
in scoring, steals, 3pt FG% and 3pt FG made, ranking 19th in the AMC Conference
averaging 14.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game... Shot 36% behind the 3pt line,
good enough for 13th in the AMC... Averaged 2.00 made 3pt pg ranked 9th in the
AMC and nationally French was ranked 49th in steals averaging 2.43 spg
Ashley
Scudder (Jr. Fredonia, NY)
was named AMC North
Division Honorable Mention for the second time in her career. Scudder started
all 26 games for the Highlanders this season leading the team in conference play
in FT% averaging 8.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and shooting 74% from the free throw
line ranking 12th in the AMC...
The
Highlanders also placed two other freshmen this year who were both selected as
All-AMC North Division Honorable Mention's and to the AMC North Division
All-Freshmen Team.
Erika
Forland (Fr. Huntington Station, NY)
Started all 26 games for the Highlanders this season leading the team in FT
attempts, rebounds, blocked shots and finishing second in scoring averaging 11.4
points, 7 rebounds, shooting 67% from the field. Her team best 5.0 FT per game
led the Highlanders while nationally Forland was ranked 27th in the country for
blocked shots averaging 1.38 per game
Jessica
Smith (Fr. Middleport, NY)
Started 1 match and saw
action in all 26 games for the Highlanders this season. Smith averaged 7.2
points and 4.4 rebounds per game this season. She led the Highlanders in FG%
shooting 54% from the field and was an impact player off the bench for the
Highlanders this year.
The
Highlanders posted a 12-14 overall (6-8) in AMC North Division conference play
reaching the AMC playoffs, losing to #2 Geneva College 53-72. This was the first
trip back to the playoffs since the 2003-04 season.
Houghton College
