Highlanders Land Two All-Americans At Indoor

                                    Nationals

Houghton, NY- The Highlander Track and Field team landed two NAIA All-Americans at the 2007 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Johnson City, TN. Rachel Rhodes finished 6th in the 3000m Race Walk and Ryan Fadden finished 6th in the Men's 800m.

Rachel Rhodes (Jr. Salamanca, NY) placed 6th in the 3000m Race Walk with a time of 17:30.77.

"Rachel had a rough indoor season suffering a near season ending injury and missing over four weeks of training. She was cleared to compete just days before the Indoor Nationals," said Assistant Coach Matt Dougherty. "Her performance shows her determination and desire to compete no matter what. While not walking to her best time, she showed courage, even attempting to race at this level after her injury. She fought through a lot of pain to achieve her All-American award and sets a great example for the program."

Ryan Fadden (Sr. Hyde Park, NY) finished 6th in the Men's 800m Final with a time of 1:54.66 gaining All-American Honor's. Fadden is the first male Houghton College Indoor Track & Field All-American.

"Ryan Fadden has been the consummate example of what it means to be an athlete, sacrificing so much for improvement on the track," said said Assistant Coach Matt Dougherty. "He demonstrates what it means to be a teammate and a leader, no one deserves this All-American award more than Ryan. His four years of dedication to improving himself paid off in spectacular fashion for a senior."

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
