Christensen Breaks
Record & Qualifies for Nationals
Meet Results
Houghton, NY- The Highlander Track & Field team competed last weekend at
California University of Pennsylvania Early Bird Invitational initiating the
beginning of the 2007 outdoor track & field season. So. Naomi Christensen broke
the 400m record on her way to qualifying for Nationals.
So.
Naomi Christensen took top honors on the weekend smashing Houghton College's
400m women's record with a time of 57.68 secs. This time gives Christensen a
provisional qualification into the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships
later in the spring.
Christensen was not alone in breaking records that afternoon. So. Dan Ballard
broke
the 1500m record as well with a time of 3.58.20 secs.
The
Highlanders took top honors in six events with 4 athletes winning those events.

The Highlanders also captured 2nd place in the
women's 4x100 Relay and 4x400 Relay. The men's 800m, finished 1st, 2nd and
3rd (Dan Ballard, 1st; Josiah Snelgrove, 2nd; Chad Stauring, 3rd). Steve
Scott finished 2nd in both 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles, while Joe Mason
finished 3rd in the Hammer Throw.
The athletes of the meet were:
Naomi Christensen (PR, school record, and
provisional qualification in the 400m; also part of the 4x100 and 4x400
Relay teams that finished 2nd.
Jamie Mason (7th in the 100m, 4th in the
Triple Jump, and part of the 4x100 and 4x400 Relay teams)
Dan Ballard (winner of the 800m and 1500m
races, school record in the 1500m, and part of the 4th place 4x400 Relay)
Steve Scott (2nd place in 110mHH, 400mIH, part
of the 4th place 4x400 Relay, and 5th place in the LJ)
The Highlanders next meet will be at home on
April 12th for the Houghton Invitational on Burke Field
