Women's Soccer Signs Rochester Native Tomlinson

HOUGHTON, N.Y. –  Carolyn Tomlinson (Victor, NY/ Home Schooled) has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer at Houghton College, Highlander coach David Lewis announced today.

Tomlinson comes to Houghton after completing 4 years as a Midfielder/Defender for the V/F United Soccer Club in Rochester, NY. During her time they won the Rochester District Soccer League 1st Division Championships in 2003, 2004, 2005 and in 2006 captured the Upstate NY Premier League Championship.

Carolyn was named Team Captain, MVP and League All-Star numerous times.

“Carolyn is a player that loves to be pushed; on and off the field," said V/F United Soccer Coach Lanse Toth. "She loves the game, loves the Lord, and will do whatever it takes to build up the players around her.”

“Carolyn attended our soccer camp last summer and impressed me with her skill level and competitive drive," said Highlander Coach David Lewis. "She is a hard-worker, a determined player, and is a great fit for our program.  I expect her to play a significant role for us as a freshman at either Midfield or as a Back.”

Carolyn is the daughter of Arthur and Barbara Tomlinson. She will join her older brother Daniel who is apart of the Highlanders Men's Basketball Team. She anticipates majoring in Physical Therapy & Sports Ministry.

Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
