Women's Basketball Signs Elba Central Standout,
Jonathan
Houghton, NY- Marci Jonathan (Elba/ Elba
Central) has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Houghton
College, Highlander coach Skip Lord announced today.
Marci
Jonathan, a standout and two-time Class D NYPHSAA First Team All-State selection
in 2006 & 2007. Led Elba Central to a 20-1 overall record for the 2006-07
season. Jonathon finishes her career 3rd All-time in career points at Elba
Central scoring 1101 points and grabbing 711 rebounds. During her four year
varsity career her team recorded a 89% winning percentage going 79-10.
This includes a Section V Class DD Championship in
2005 and three Genesee Region Division 2 League Championships in 2004, 2006, and
in 2007.
"Marci Jonathan is an outstanding young woman from
a great family who has played in a very strong program," said Highlander coach
Skip Lord. "She has been very well coached and comes to us with strong
fundamentals that will provide the foundation to be a successful player at the
college level. She has good speed, above average athleticism and can play the 3,
4 or 5. She is an unselfish "Team Player," who will make a difference in our
program right away. This has been very obvious every time I've had the privilege
of watching her play. We look forward to having her here at Houghton as part of
our program."
Jonathan brings with her an impressive list of
accolades spanning three years. During her sophomore season Jonathon was
recognized as a Genesee Region All-Star; MVP Class "DD" Section V Sectionals;
and Class D NYPHSAA Fourth Team All-State.
In
her junior year she was selected as a Genesee Region All-Star; Class "DD"
Section V Sectionals All-Tournament Team; and Class D NYPHSAA First Team
All-State. During her senior year she was recognized as a Genesee Region
All-Star; Class D NYPHSAA First Team All-State; Genesee Region Birds Eye Player
of the Year; Second Team All-Greater Rochester; and Rochester Channel 10 Scholar
Athlete of the Week.
Marci is the daughter of Dave and Jo Ann Jonathan.
She anticipates majoring in Business specializing in Accounting.
