Track & Field Makes Strides at AMC Championships

Meet Results

Houghton, NY- School records fell as the Highlander Track and Field team competed in the AMC Championships over the weekend. Highlighting the weekend was the Men's 4 x 800m  (Dan Ballard, Josiah Snelgrove, Chad Stauring and Ryan Fadden) who broke the AMC record and Rachel Rhodes who automatically qualified for the 3K Race Walk.

 

The Men's 4 x 800 Relay walked out as the only event winner on the weekend. Beating the previous AMC record of 7:46.52 set by Roberts Wesleyan in 2006. The team (Dan Ballard, Josiah Snelgrove, Chad Stauring and Ryan Fadden) ran a 7:44.57.

 

The Highlanders excelled in the warm, sunny spring weather enjoying the first real signs of spring. With the warmth and heat came the overflowing of 37  new PR's for the team including 5 school records.

 

Fr. Kaitlin Fadden reset her existing record with a new time of 12:08.17 in the 3k Steeplechase.

Sr. Meghan Radimer reset her own record in the discus throw with a distance of 127' 8"

Sr. Ryan Fadden reset his own record in the 800m run with a time of 1:53.27

So. Steve Scott set a new record in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 54.58. This record was previously held by Ken Heck in 1979, a record that stood for 28 years.

Men's 4x400 Relay (Steve Scott, Josiah Snelgrove, Chad Stauring and Ryan Fadden) broke a 20-year old record with a run of 3:26.83. This record was held by Allen, Gidman, Meel, Dunham set back in 1987.

 

The following athletes scored in the AMC Championship (top 8 finisher): Kaitlin Fadden, Jamie Mason, Meghan Radimer, Rachel Rhodes, Kaitlin Smith, Dan Ballard, Jesse Braswell, Ryan Fadden, Bruce Mourhess, Steve Scott, Josiah Snelgrove, Men's and Women's 4x100, Men's 4x400, and Men's and Women's 4x800 Relays.

 

National Qualifications

Provisional Qualifiers

Sr. Ryan Fadden improved his provisional qualifying time for nationals in the 800m with a new time of 1:53.27.

So. Steve Scott improved his provisional qualifying time for nationals in the 400m Hurdles with a new time of 54.58

 

Automatic Qualifiers 

Jr. Rachel Rhodes in the 3k Race Walk with a time of 16:22.28

Men's 4x800 Relay with a time of 7:44.57
