Field Hockey Signs Two
HOUGHTON, N.Y.
– Sarah Buckwalter (Lititz, PA/ Lancaster Mennonite) & Jennifer Huyett
(Stevens, PA/ Garden Spot) have signed national letter's of intent to play
field hockey at Houghton College, Highlander coach Darlene Wells announced
today.
Sarah Buckwalter
(Lititz, PA/ Lancaster Mennonite) is a two-time Lancaster Lebanon League
Section 3: 1st Team All-Star and a 2006 All-State Honorable Mention
selection. As a forward she totaled 40 goals and 28 assists in her career,
leading Lancaster Mennonite to consecutive Sectional 3 titles and 1st round
appearances into the PIAA State Championships in 2005 & 2006. Buckwalter
finishes her high school career with a 34-10-1 overall record as a starter
for Lancaster Mennonite.
"Sarah Buckwalter is a
talented forward line player with excellent stick skills, who has good
ability to find the open girl in the circle," said high school coach Karen
Gyger. "Sarah possesses excellent leadership skills and will be a great
addition to Highlander program."
At the club level
Buckwalter played for the "Simply Field Hockey" from 2005-06 and "Lanco
Premier" from 2003-05. During this time her teams made four consecutive
appearances at the Nationals Field Hockey Tournament and at the Keystone
State Indoor Games from 2003-06. Including one trip to the Indoor National
Field Hockey Tournament in 2006.
Sarah is the Daughter
of J. Reid & Ruth Buckwalter. Sarah anticipates majoring in Elementary
Education.
Jennifer Huyett (Stevens, PA/ Garden Spot)
is a 2006 Lancaster Lebanon League 2nd
Team All-Star and Sparticus Award Recipient. Playing centre-mid, Huyett
recorded 35 varsity starts collecting 4 goals and 6 assists for a combined
19-18-3 record during her 3 year varsity career. In that time her team
finished 2nd in 2006 for Section 2 playoffs in the
Lancaster Lebanon League.
"Jenny is an all around
player," said high school coach Cheri Horst. "She is a leader both on and
off the field and commands respect through her actions. This past season she
was our center mid and really controlled the tempo if the game. She is
strong in her movement to the ball and has great field sense. She was our
corner inserter & then took post, where she scored all her goals this year.
Jenny will be a great asset to the Highlander program and is more than ready
to play at the next level."
Jennifer is the
Daughter of Ronald and Tracy Huyett. Jennifer anticipates majoring in both
Elementary Education and Missions.
