Women's Basketball Signs Romulus Star, Schrader

Houghton, NY- Kara Schrader (Romulus, NY/ Romulus) has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Houghton College, Highlander coach Skip Lord announced today.

Schrader a 5'8" PG, comes to Houghton after leading her team to the New York State Class "D" Final Four. Finishing her senior year with a 19-6 record for 2006-07, winning the New York State Class "DD" Section V playoffs and the Class "D" Far West Regional Championship.

As a co-captain, Schrader was selected Second Team All-State Class "D", First Team Finger Lakes West, A Canandaigua Daily Messenger All-Star, and chosen as a participate in the Ronald MacDonald All-Star Game. Averaging 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists per game for Romulus. She finishes her career with over 800 points and 350 rebounds.

“Kara is a tough, blue collar player who can handle the ball and score from the outside, but can also take you inside and post you up, if she has to," said Highlander Head Coach Skip Lord. "She is a hard worker and a team leader.  Whenever her high school team needed something done they just turned to Kara.  She often defended the opponent’s best player.  She comes from a very good program where she was well-coached.  Like our other recruits this year, she is a great person from a good family and will fit well in our program here at Houghton.”

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
