Men's Basketball Signs Schrader
Houghton, NY-
Nate Schrader (Interlaken, NY/ South Seneca) has
signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Houghton College,
Highlander coach Brad Zarges announced today.
Schrader
a 6'9" C, comes to Houghton College after completing an outstanding senior
season averaging 16.8 points, 10 rebounds, 7.4 blocks, 2.9 assists, and 1.2
steals per game for South Seneca Central School.
Nate
was a Second Team All-League Fingers Lakes West selection this year and featured
as a NY State Section V Player of the Week. He was also a Mid-lakes Christmas
Tournament First Team All-Tournament selection and was chosen to play in the
Finger Lakes East/West Exceptional Senior Game.
"Nate
is a welcome addition to our roster," said Highlander Coach Brad Zarges. "His
length is much needed and will bring some better battles in practice for our
post players. Nate has much to learn about how to play in the post at the
college level, but his desire to improve is very evident. With added strength
and improved footwork, Nate should be ready to help us as a freshman."
Nate is
the Son of Wayne Schrader and Michelle Boyes. He anticipates majoring in
Elementary Education at Houghton College.
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
