Niagara Orleans League MVP to Play Volleyball for Houghton College

Meghan Phipps, of Lockport, N.Y., has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Houghton College. Phipps attended Royalton Hartland High School, where she was named MVP of the Niagara Orleans League and was second team All Western New York in the fall of 2006.

“Meghan will add much needed depth to our setting position this fall and contend for a starting spot,” said Highlander Head Coach Nancy Cole Cole, “She plays with such tenacity and spirit; we know that she will be a great fit with our program. She will be an exciting player to watch.”

Phipps, the daughter of Matthew and Lucille Phipps, intends to major in business at Houghton.

Houghton, founded by The Wesleyan Church in 1883, provides an academically challenging, Christ-centered liberal arts education to students from diverse traditions and economic backgrounds. The college of 1,200 students is located in western New York, just 65 miles from Rochester and Buffalo. Houghton College has deep roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for a strong and unique emphasis on sports ministry. Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes work together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
