Windsor’s Emerson Signs with Houghton College

(Houghton, N.Y.)—Darby Emerson, a recent graduate of Windsor (Colorado) High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball for Houghton College. Emerson enjoyed a standout career in athletics at Windsor, setting several school records in track and field, winning a “hustle” award in basketball and twice earning All-Conference honors in volleyball.

“Darby has the ability to play outside, middle or right side as well as being a strong defensive player in the backrow. Her flexibility in these positions will be a huge asset for us as we put together a new team for the fall,” says Nancy Cole, head coach of the Highlander volleyball team, “I see Darby getting lots of time on the court next fall.”

In addition to playing for varsity teams at Windsor High, Emerson played with the Bongo, Club One and Premier VBC club volleyball teams. She intends to major in biology at Houghton, in anticipation of a career in medicine.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
