Houghton Women Come Back, Win Big
Rochester, NY—The
Houghton College women’s soccer team turned a 0-1 halftime deficit into
a 4-1 runaway victory over the University of Mobile (UM) at the Roberts
tournament Saturday night.
Terri McCreadi scored unassisted for the Rams at the 42-minute mark to
give UM that 1-0 halftime lead.
But less than ten minutes into the second half Hannah Swift got the
equalizer for the Highlanders with her fourth goal of the season on an
assist from Rebecca Smith.
She followed that up with another goal at 68:23 to give the
Highlanders the lead. Rebecca Dix received the assist on that one.
They padded the margin at 80:17 when UM had an own goal and then
Amy-Kaye Mitchell capped off the Highlander’s scoring barrage with a goal at 82:03.
Swift had the assist.
The goal was the first of her college career for Mitchell, who starred
for Allegany-Limestone last year.
Houghton improves to 2-1-2 with the win, while UM drops to 1-3. The
Highlanders travel to Marion, Ind., next weekend to play in the Aflac
Wildcat Classic against Lee University (Friday night) and Indiana
Wesleyan University (Saturday night).
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
