Swift Named AMC Offensive Player of the Week
Houghton,
N.Y.—Houghton College’s Hannah
Swift has been named offensive player of the week in women’s soccer by
the American Mideast Conference. The junior striker from Perrysburg, N.Y.,
earned the honor with three goals and an assist in two games against
ranked opponents as the Highlanders won one game and tied another last
weekend.
On Friday, August 31, the Highlanders took on Spring Arbor (Mich.)
University, ranked 20th in the NAIA, at a tournament in Rochester, N.Y.
Swift scored the Highlanders’ lone goal to earn the team a 1-1 tie.
The next day, at the same tournament, Swift struck twice against the
University of Mobile (Ala.) Rams, ranked 19th in the nation. Her first
goal, at 54:42, erased a 1-0 halftime deficit and her second, less than
six minutes later, put the Highlanders ahead for good. The team went on
to win 4-1, with Swift getting an assist on the fourth goal just for
good measure.
The goals were the third, fourth and fifth in five games this season for
Swift. Previously, she had scored both goals in the team’s 2-1 victory
over Missouri Baptist.
The women take a 2-1-2 record to Marion, Ind. this weekend to play in
the Aflac Wildcat Classic. They will take on #4 Lee University (Tenn.)
Friday evening at 5 p.m. and the home team, #25 Indiana Wesleyan
University, on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.

and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play

unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
