      Volleyball Splits, Final Day of H.C. Fall Tournament

 

Houghton, N.Y.- Four games in two days is no easy task, but the women's volleyball team finished the Houghton College 2007 Fall Volleyball Tournament 2-2 for the weekend.

 

The Highlanders finished the weekend beating Pikeville College again 3-1 (29-31, 30-20, 30-17, 30-25). Houghton overall record improves to 5-7 for the season. Holly Motheral had 19 kills and 3 blocks, Darby Emerson recorded 14 kills, 13 digs and a block. Leah Scott tallied 14 kills, Stephanie Swanson recorded 27 digs and Meghan Phipps recorded and astounding 59 assists.

 

Earlier in the day Houghton dropped their first match against AMC Conference rival Notre Dame College 3-1 (30-27, 21-30, 31-33, 26-30). Holly Motheral had 12 kills and 2 blocks, Darby Emerson recorded 13 kills, 16 digs and 3 blocks. Leah Scott tallied 10 kills and 5 blocks, Stephanie Swanson recorded 30 digs and Meghan Phipps recorded 46 assists.

 

Stephanie Swanson and Darby Emerson were selected to the all-tournament team.

 

The Highlanders go on the road to compete in the 16-team Taylor Trojan Challenge at Taylor University in Upland, IN. on September 14-15. This tournament will feature some of the elite teams in the NAIA. The women will play Robert Morris College first on Friday 14th at 6:00 pm and then Trinity International University at 8:00 pm.
