Cross Country  Teams Finish Strong at the Geneseo Blue Knight Invitational

Letchworth Park, N.Y.- The men's and women's cross country teams both finished strong at the Geneseo Blue Knight Invitational today. The men took fourth place (out of 15 teams) and the women were fifth (out of 12). Dan Ballard took second place out of 217 runners in the men's race.

Ballard's finish wowed the crowd. He was 18th with less than a mile to go and caught all but the top finisher, coming in second by just three-tenths of a second. He was the only top 25 finisher for the Highlanders men, with a time of 25:48.7.

The women put two runners in the top 25 even though they were without number three runner Heather Hutton and top recruit Heather Sayre because of injuries. Rachel Rhodes finished in 12th place (23:11.1) and Kaitlin Fadden finished in 15th (23:30.5). The Highlanders recorded 11 new personal best times for the meet.

The Highlanders will be back in action on October 13 at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan College.

Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
