Houghton Women Shut Out Daemen
Box Score
Houghton,
N.Y.—The Houghton Highlanders
women’s soccer team posted its
fourth consecutive shutout this
afternoon, defeating American
Mideast Conference (AMC) opponents
Daemen College 2-0 at the Wildcat’s
home field to improve to 6-2-2
overall and 3-0 in the AMC.
Freshman Kaylin Bull (Right) gave
the Highlanders the lead just five
minutes in when a pass from
midfielder Lauren Haggerty sprung
her past the defense and Bull
chipped the ball over charging
Wildcats goalkeeper Ally Young. It
was the first goal of Bull’s college
career and Haggerty’s first assist
(she has four goals).
The game stayed 1-0 deep into the
second half. “It was an ugly game,”
said David Lewis, head coach of the
Highlanders, “the field was bumpy
and it made control difficult. Our
defense did well to keep them out
and control the back.”
In the 76th minute, Young saved a
penalty kick from Houghton’s Hannah
Swift, but Highlander midfielder
Chelsea Adams pounced on the rebound
and passed it to Sarah Whipple, who
tapped it home for the game’s final
tally. It was Whipple’s first goal
of the year.
Lauren Foster got her second
straight shutout—and it was the
Highlander’s fourth in a row—by
stopping three shots. Houghton had
an 8-5 edge in shots and a 10-1
advantage in corner kicks for the
game.
The Highlanders will host Point Park
University for Homecoming this
Saturday at Burke Field in Houghton
at 2:00 p.m.

Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and

are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
