Highlander Fall Classic

Houghton, N.Y.- The men's
and women's cross country
team swept both divisions , each
taking first place at
the Highlander Fall Classic
today. It was
the first race win for the
women's team this season.
The women's team currently
sits outside the national
ranking receiving only a few
votes from NAIA raters. The
Highlanders
helped their
cause today,
putting together some of their
fastest times this season.
Houghton front runner Katie
Fadden set a new meet record
today with a time of 19:06.
She was joined by Rachel
Rhodes taking a solid third
place 19:31 and Heather
Hutton placing fourth with a
time of 20:29.
The men ran their fastest
pack time and scored a
perfect 15 points, by
placing in all five top
spots. Chad Stauring took
first (26:52), Jake Connor
second (26:57) and Dan
Ballard took third (27:57).
"Our top 5 men had a time
spread of just 14 seconds," said
Highlander Head Coach Bob
Smalley. "It was teamwork at
its maximum, as front runner
Dan Ballard dropped back to
run with our number five
man. This was a great
tune-up for our teams as
they prepare to race at the
AMC Conference
Championships, at Walsh
University, in two weeks."

Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
