Highlanders Women Beat Roberts
1-0, Win AMC North
Box Score
Rochester,
N.Y.—The Houghton College
women’s soccer team beat
American Mideast Conference
(AMC) North Division rival
Roberts Wesleyan College 1-0
Tuesday night at Roberts Stadium
to clinch the division title and
earn a bye into the NAIA Region
IX Final Four.
It is the 15th straight year
that Houghton has reached the
regional Final Four.
Houghton scored at 10:30 on a
corner kick from Mandy
Lewandowski. Andrea Duryea
headed the kick to Kaylin Bull
(right), who put the ball into
the net.
“The players did a nice job,”
said David Lewis, Houghton’s
head coach, “I’m pleased with
their effort—and obviously with
the result as well.”
Houghton outshot the Raiders
14-9 and led in corners as well,
6-1. Lauren Foster went all 90
minutes in goal for Houghton and
made four saves to get the
shutout.
“We can take a little breather
now and get ready for the Final
Four,” said Lewis. That
tournament will be held November
2-3; the site has yet to be
determined.
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
