Raiders Steal Win From Women's Volleyball

Rochester, N.Y.-  The Highlander volleyball team let the Roberts Wesleyan College Raiders steal a five-set victory tonight in American Mideast Conference play, going down 3-2 (30-28, 21-30, 30-24, 24-30, 13-15).

Houghton controlled the game offensivelyplacing four Highlanders with double digit kills, but mistakes and defensive lapses cost the Highlanders valuable road victory.

Darby Emerson had another double-double performance with 19 kills, 18 digs and three blocks; Holly Motheral recorded 15 kills and four blocks; Lenore Basset tallied 14 kills and Ashley Kuvshinikov also had 11 kills.

Defensively, Stefanie Swanson recorded her eight 30-dig match of the season and Brianne Brubaker added 23 digs.

The Highlanders are back in action for their final two matches against Notre Dame College and Carlow University in South Euclid, Ohio on November 3. The Highlanders fall to 10-21 for the season and 2-10 in AMC North Division play.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
