Swift Named AMC Player of the Year

Houghton, N.Y.—Hannah Swift, junior forward on the Houghton Highlanders women’s soccer team, has been named the Player of the Year in the American Mideast Conference (AMC) North Division.

Swift was the AMC Freshman of the Year in 2005, when she had 10 goals and six assists. It is the sixth straight year that the AMC North Player of the Year honor has gone to a member of the Highlanders. Bethany Kowalczyk won it in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Swift, from Perrysburg, N.Y. (Fredonia High School), has 17 goals and six assists for the 11-2-2 Highlanders. Her 1.13 goals per game average puts her 22nd in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and her 2.67 points per game average puts her 21st nationally. Her point average leads the AMC.

She was named AMC offensive Player of the Week for 8/27-9/1/07, when she scored three goals and one assist in two games against nationally ranked opponents.

Swift and the Highlanders will take on Ohio Dominican on Friday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the NAIA Region IX semifinal at Mount Vernon Nazarene, Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
