Kimani Earns AMC
Freshman of the Year
Honors

Houghton, N.Y.—The
American Mideast
Conference (AMC)
North Division has
named Johnny Kimani,
freshman forward at
Houghton College,
its Freshman of the
Year in men’s
soccer.
The 5’6” Kimani led
the team in goals
scored during the
regular season with
five. Kimani has
only had three
starts, but has
played in all but
one of the team’s 16
regular-season
games.
“Johnny
has been a very
pleasant addition to
the team this year,”
said Matthew Webb,
the Highlanders’
head coach, “His
creativity with the
ball gives us a look
in the attack that
we haven’t had in
recent years. He is
not the most
imposing player on
the field given his
small stature, but
his quick and
deceptive first step
allows him to create
space and
opportunities for
himself. He is very
composed when going
in on goal.”
Kimani is from
Nairobi, Kenya,
where he attended
Rosslyn Academy.
Kimani and the
Highlanders won the
AMC Qualifier
playoff game
Wednesday night to
advance to the
National Association
of Intercollegiate
Athletics’ Region IX
Final Four. Houghton
travels to Rio
Grande, Ohio, to
take on the
University of Rio
Grande Redmen in a
semi-final on
Saturday afternoon
at 1 p.m.

Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
