Highlanders Handle Mustangs Easily
Box Score
Houghton,
NY –
Houghton took the lead early in the game and never looked back as they handled
Myers University 84-61. The Highlanders put on quite the show for their fans
with exciting shots and thrilling rebounds. Every player contributed to the game
to give Houghton their 7th victory of the season.
Five
players earned double digits for the Highlanders tonight and two women earned a
double-double. Leah French (Fr. Owego, NY)
dominated Myers to lead Houghton with 20 points.
French is currently ranked 5th all time with her 14 point
per game average, if she keeps it up she could secure a spot in Houghton
athletic history her first year playing.
The two
players earned a double-double were Ashley Scudder
(Jr. Fredonia, NY), who had 14 points, 12 rebounds, and
Erika Forland (Fr. Huntingdon Station, NY),
who worked for 10 points, 19 rebounds. Also scoring double digits were
Jessica Smith (Fr. Middleport, NY), who had
11 points, and Cassie Merrill (Jr. Houghton,
NY) who had 10 points.
With
all of this young talent Coach Lord has much to be proud of as well as much to
look forward to. “I’m very pleased with our win tonight,” stated Coach Lord.
“This was the first time we’ve had 5 players earn double figures, and we almost
had 6. We’re halfway through the season and we’ve already equaled our total wins
of last year.”
The
leaders for Myers were Arielle Arthur who had 18 points and Telitha Davis who
earned double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The
Highlanders is now 7-6 overall and remains 3-2 in the AMC North Division.
Houghton will look to earn another win tomorrow, Saturday, January 13th,
when they take on AMC North Division opponent Notre Dame College of Ohio at 2
PM.
