Highlanders
Fall by 4 Points to Griffins, 64-68
Box Score
Greensburg,
PA –
The
women’s basketball team put up a good fight but could not overcome Seton Hill
University as they fell 64-68.
The
Highlanders took the early advantage taking an early lead 17-8 with (13:51) to
go. Seton Hill chipped away at the Highlanders forcing them to turnover the ball
and over took the lead 26-27 with five minutes to go in the first half. This
would be the last time the Highlanders would be in-front trailing the Seton Hill
Griffins for the remainder of the game. Going into half time the game stayed
interesting with Seton Hill only having a 6 point lead 27-33.
Seton
Hill kept the Highlanders at bay with a comfortable 10 point lead for much of
the second half. The Highlanders struggled to make any attempt to run at the
Griffins. Inconsistent ball play and good defensive pressure for the home team
sealed the win for Seton Hill.
One
bright spot from the game was that the Highlanders achieved a season low 11
turnovers for the game.
Cassie Merrill
(Jr. Houghton, NY)
led the Highlanders with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Leah French (Fr. Owego, NY) followed just
behind Merrill with 16 points, 5
rebounds and 4 assists.
Erika Forland
(Fr. Huntingdon Station, NY)
earned 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Jessica Smith’s
(Fr. Middleport, NY)
quick recovery of a rolled ankle from yesterday’s Geneva match-up responded with
12 points and 6 rebounds for the team.
The
Highlanders are now 7-9 overall and remain 3-4 in the AMC North Division.
Houghton will look to improve their record tomorrow Friday, January 26th
when they travel to take on Myers University at 6:30 PM.
