Houghton Men Cruise
Past Paul Smith’s
(Paul Smiths, N.Y.)—Mada
Abdelhamid collected 18 points and a game-high 23 rebounds as the Houghton
men’s basketball team got out to an early lead and cruised past Paul Smith’s
College Saturday afternoon, winning 76-48.
“We dominated
the glass, and gave them no second chance opportunities,” said Houghton Head
Coach Brad Zarges. “Mada had a great individual performance, but it was
really a team effort.”
Yannick
Anzuluni had 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Freshman Devin
Paige chipped in 13 points. “It was nice to see Devin get the first
double-digit scoring game of his college career,” said Zarges.
The Highlanders
jumped out to an early double-digit lead and a 42-28 halftime score. In the
second half they doubled the lead, outscoring Paul Smith’s 34-20.
Floyd Thorne
led all scorers with 23 points, including 13 of 22 free throws. Paul Smith’s
shot 21 of 36 from the line, as did the Highlanders.
“The game was
called very closely, as you can tell from the [72] free throws attempted,”
Zarges said. “Our guys had to adapt, and they handled it well.”
Houghton’s record is now 4-2. The Highlanders are in
action again Tuesday night when they host SUNY Canton at the Nielsen Center.
Tip-off is set for 8.
