Houghton to Host
Counselor’s Classic
(Houghton,
N.Y.)—Houghton College will host boys’ and girls’ basketball teams from five
area schools for the third annual Counselor’s Classic basketball tournament
Friday and Saturday, December 28-29 at the Nielsen Center.
The
tournament, held under the auspices of the Allegany County School Guidance
Counselor’s Association (ACCA), raises money for scholarships to area
students for use at the college of their choice.
The girls will
start play on Friday, December 28, with a 2:45 tip-off between Olean’s
Archbishop Walsh and Fillmore Central School in a game sponsored by
Community Bank. The Cuba-Rushford and Whitesville girls will follow, at
4:30, sponsored by the Allegany County Council on Alcoholism and Substance
Abuse.
Two boys’
games will follow on Friday evening, at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Campbell-Savona will
take on Whitesville in the early game, sponsored by Nathan Petroleum. The
final contest of the day will feature Cuba-Rushford against Fillmore. The
game is sponsored by Fillmore and Cuba Pharmacies.
Saturday will
feature the consolation games early on and the championship games in the
evening. The girls’ consolation tips off at 2:45 in a game sponsored by
Houghton College. The boys’ consolation game is sponsored by Jamestown
Community College and is set for 4:30.
Dresser-Rand
is sponsoring the girls’ championship game, tipping off at 6:30. The boys’
championship will follow, at 8:00, with the Seneca Battalion of the ROTC as
sponsor.
Tickets for
each day’s games are available at the Nielsen Center, with free parking
provided by Houghton College.
