Highlanders Control Mustangs for an Easy Win

Box Score

Cleveland, OH – The Women’s basketball team had no problem controlling the game against Myers University in a 66-20 win. The women overpowered the Mustangs stepping up the defensive effort tonight resulting in easy points at the other end.

The Highlanders capitalized on many mistakes the Mustangs made scoring 35 points off of turnovers, 16 points off of second chances that Myers failed to rebound. The Highlander bench also chipped in with 27 points.

Leah French (Fr. Owego, NY) led Houghton with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals. Following her was Ashley Scudder (Jr. Fredonia, NY) who earned 10 points for the night.

All nine Highlanders each played an average of 15 minutes.  “I was able to rest my players for tomorrow’s AMC North divisional match-up versus Notre Dame,” said Lord.  “The win tonight was definitely a result of a balanced team effort, taking care of the ball, and good shooting.  I am pleased with the win and how we were able to prepare for tomorrow’s game tonight.”

The Highlanders are now 8-9 overall and 3-4 in the AMC North Division. Houghton will look to improve both of their records tomorrow Saturday, January 27th, when they challenge Notre Dame College at 5:30 PM.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
