Highlanders Continue to
Improve at Colgate Invitational
Meet Results
Houghton, NY- The
Highlander Indoor Track and Field team continued to make progress for the
upcoming NAIA Indoor National Championships by qualifying the Men’s 4x800 relay
this last Saturday at Colgate University for the Class of 1921 Invitation.
The Men’s 4x800 relay team
finished in second place with a time of 8:00.55.
The Highlanders placed first
in two events Jr. Naomi Christensen won the 400m Dash with a time of 1:00.55 and
Sr. Joe Mason won the Men's Shot Put with a throw of 48' 2 1/2". The Women’s
team finished respectively 7th out of 10 teams and the Men finished 5th
out of 11 teams.
Three school indoor records
were also beaten as well with
Naomi Christensen resetting
her school record in the 55m Dash twice (7.64 in the prelims and 7.61 in the
finals). Joe Mason broke the school record in the Weight Throw with a throw of
48' 6 1/4" (he held the previous record at 48' 3 1/2") and finally the men's
4x800m Relay broke an 11 year record with a time of 8:00.55
Over the days events 14 PR’s
were achieved by Highlander athletes.
Athletes of the Meet were:
Naomi Christensen who reset the 55m records twice and ran a 1:00.55 400m to win
the event; Jacob Connor who dropped his time in the 3k from 9:22.7 to 9:07.47;
Joe Mason who won the Shot Put and broke the school record in the Weight Throw;
and the Men's 4x800 Relay team that broke the school record and qualified for
nationals.
