Unloads On SUNY-Fredonia, 83-76
Box Score
Fredonia,
NY- The Men's Highlander Basketball team beat SUNY-Fredonia Blue
Devil's for the
second time this season, 83-76. The Highlanders were led by
Luke Mortenson (Sr. Greenville, NY) who
scored a season high 35 points off 13-19 shooting from the field including 6-8
behind the 3 point line.
The Highlanders jumped out to
an early 11-2 (16:05) lead with 4 out of 5 starters hitting their opening shots.
The Highlanders offense continued to sizzle opening the floodgates making a 23-7
run to end the half, 44-25. Mortenson scored 25 of his 35 points in the first
half with the Highlanders shooting over 53% from the field. The Highlander
defense only allowed one 3 pointer in the first half holding the Blue Devil's to
40% from the field.
The second half would be much
of the same but allowed the Highlanders to flex it's bench for valuable playing
experience going into conference play this Saturday against Point Park.
The Highlanders finished the
game comfortably winning their forth game on the road this season. The Highlanders go to 5-5
overall for the year moving onto their last non-conference game of the season
against Fisher College (MA) on Friday the 5th home at the Nielson P.E. Center
tip-off starting at 4:00 pm.
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
