Win Streak
Snapped As Highlanders Fall to Wildcats
Box Score
Houghton,
NY
–
Playing
the #18 ranked team in the nation is no easy task and the Daemen Wildcats showed
why they have captured that ranking defeating Houghton 83-67. This loss snapped
their win streak to keep it at 3 wins for the second time this season. This
loss puts Houghton’s record at an even 6-6 overall and 3-2 in AMC North Division
play.
The
game for the Highlanders was lost on defense. The women took too many fouls and
were out-rebounded giving the Wildcats an early lead that they never lost.
Jessica Smith
(Fr. Middleport, NY)
and Erika Forland (Fr. Huntingdon Station,
NY) each earned 13 points tonight to lead the team. Steals were lead by
Leah French (Fr. Owego, NY) who made 4.
Leading the team in rebounds were Erika Forland
(Fr. Huntingdon Station, NY) and Ashley Scudder
(Jr. Fredonia, NY) working hard for 6 steals a piece.
The
leaders for the Wildcats were Germany Jackson who had 21 points and Alison
LaPoint who earned double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
“The
loss tonight was a disappointment. We had been playing so well and I was hoping
for a better show,” said Coach Lord after the game. “We were a little lazy on
defense, we were out-rebounded, and we gave them too many foul shots and they
capitalized.” Although Coach Lord was disappointed, he is positive about the
remainder of the season. “We will work on free throws to improve,” he mentioned
optimistically. “We have been playing well with a young team, and we still have
plenty of games left.”
Houghton will be back in action on Friday, January 12th when they
host Myers University at 6 PM.
