          Hard Fought Loss to Neighbor Daemen, 82-75

Houghton, N.Y. –The Highlanders came out red hot against the Daemen Wildcats only to be cooled down by the Wildcats offensive attack and aggressive defense.  The Highlanders once again could not finish off the competition in the second half losing 82-75.  

In the first minute of the game the Highlanders jumped out on the attack with a 6-0 lead only to push it to an 11-6 lead.  The Highlanders shot 14 for 21 from the field for the first half.  The Highlanders shooting helped them take a 36-33 lead over the Wildcats to end the first half.  The Highlanders were unable to finish what they started by being outscored 49-39 in the second half. 

The Highlanders attack was led by Luke Mortenson (Sr. Greenville, N.Y) scoring 22 points while leading the team in minutes played with 37.  Corky McMullen (Sr. Castile, N.Y) and Allen Goodman (Sr. Citra, FL) both registered 5 assists on the night.  Goodman also led the Highlanders with 6 defensive rebounds while Rimgaudas Valaitis (Sr. Silute, Lithuania) led the Highlanders with 7 rebounds on the night.  Coming off the bench, Valaitis also scoring 13 points, the team’s second best point total on the night followed by Corky McMullen (Sr. Castile, N.Y) who scored 12 points on the night. 

The Highlanders next game is a non-conference match-up at home versus Myers University on Friday, January 12th with the tip-off at 8PM followed by another home game on Saturday, January 13th versus AMC North division Notre Dame College with the tip-off at 4PM.
