Highlanders Suffer a Defeat from the Pioneers
Houghton,
NY –
The women’s basketball team was defeated this evening by the Point Park Pioneers
62-83. Point Park proved to be a tough opponent for the Houghton this evening
as Houghton was clearly outplayed.
Leading
the Highlanders this evening was Jessica Smith
(Fr. Middleport, NY) who came off the bench to earn 12 points. Following her
was
Becky Kallal
(Jr. West Chester, PA)
who had 11 points for the night and
Leah French
(Fr. Owego, NY)
who earned a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals.
The
leaders for the Pioneers this evening were Ashleigh Hays who had 23 points and 9
rebounds and Charlisa Cummins who earned 22 points.
Coach
Lord was a little disappointed with his team’s effort tonight but is still
pleased with their overall record. “We just didn’t come out to play tonight. We
set goals for ourselves and we failed to meet them. Luckily, we have another
chance to improve our record tomorrow,” Coach Lord said after the game.
The
Highlanders are now 10-10 overall and 5-5 in the AMC North Division. Houghton
will look to improve their record when they play at home tomorrow February 3rd
vs. Carlow University with the tip off at 4:00 PM.
Houghton College

in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
