Top Ranked Geneva Just Beats Houghton

Box Score

Houghton, NY Houghton played well defensively but couldn’t produce at the other end as the women’s basketball team fell to Geneva College 51-56.  When the two teams contested earlier in the season, Geneva manhandled Houghton winning by 31 points.  However, the Highlanders played tight defense to keep the game close.

The Golden Tornados are currently placed 2nd in AMC North Division.  Houghton out rebounded Geneva by 5 which helped them keep Geneva from playing their type offensive game.  The women played tough, but fell short.

Erika Forland (Fr. Huntingdon Station, NY) led the team with 16 points, 9 rebounds. Captain Ashley Scudder (Jr. Fredonia, NY) followed just behind her with 14 points, 6 rebounds.

The leaders for Geneva this evening were Allyson Clarke who earned a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and Ruth Dobos who had 9 points and 8 rebounds.

“After our first game against them this season, it really shows our improvement to lose to them by 5 this time. We played well defensively, we just couldn’t produce off our steals,” Coach Parks said after the game.

The Highlanders are now 11-11 overall and 6-6 in the AMC North Division. Houghton will look to improve their overall record when they play at home on tomorrow Saturday, February 10th vs. Seton Hill University with the tip off at 4:00 PM.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
